From the Studio: Lavender – Serenity (2)
Here’s another little update from the studio.
Today I continued working on the background and made a start on the second sprig of lavender. It’s always wonderful to see a drawing slowly come to life, one layer at a time.
I’m still not completely happy with the background, though. It isn’t quite creating the atmosphere I’m looking for yet, so I’ll keep working on it over the next few days. Sometimes a drawing simply needs time to find its own balance.
To be honest, drawing hasn’t been easy lately.
Tomorrow marks four weeks since my father passed away. Since then, I’ve felt a little lost, as though a grey veil has settled over everything. Things that normally bring me so much joy don’t feel quite the same at the moment.
Still, I keep drawing.
Not because it’s easy, but because I don’t want to disappear into that grey feeling. Drawing gives me something to hold on to, even on the days when grief is louder than inspiration.
Perhaps that’s also why I chose lavender for this Art Wish.
Lavender represents serenity. And maybe, stroke by stroke, I’m slowly finding a little of that serenity again myself.
I hope that when this Art Wish is finally finished, you’ll see more than just a lavender flower. I hope you’ll feel some of the love, emotion and hope that have found their way into every layer of this drawing.
Until the next studio update.
Love,
