Introducing Lavendel – Rust (dutch version)

Some drawings are created simply because they are beautiful.

Others are created because they need to exist.

Lavendel – Rust belongs to the second kind.

Over the past few weeks I have shared the journey behind this drawing, from the very first sketch and delicate purple blossoms to the countless layers of pastel and the final details. Today I can finally say that it is finished.

But this drawing has become much more than an illustration of lavender.

I started working on it shortly after losing my father. It was a time when it felt as though the sun had disappeared from my life. Drawing became a place of quiet. Every flower, every tiny detail and every layer of pastel helped me slow down, breathe and gradually find my way again.

Perhaps that is one of the beautiful things about art.

It doesn’t only create something beautiful to look at.

It can also give emotions a place to rest.

For centuries lavender has symbolised peace, comfort and calm. I couldn’t have chosen a more fitting flower for this piece.

My hope is that this drawing will bring that same feeling to someone else. Perhaps it will become a gentle reminder that difficult times do not last forever. Perhaps it will simply offer a moment of calm at the end of a busy day. Or perhaps it will be a thoughtful gift for someone who could use a little extra kindness.

The handwritten title ‘Lavendel – Rust’ has intentionally been kept in Dutch. It is the third artwork in my Flowers Collection, following Carnation – Admiration and Daisy – New Beginning, it was tiem for a dutch version.

I can’t wait to see where this little piece of peace will find its new home.
