From the Studio: I’m back… with a fox 🦊
It’s been a while since I shared an update from the studio. Not because my pastel pencils have disappeared into a drawer for good. 😉 Things have simply been very busy with our other work lately, which means there hasn’t been quite as much time for drawing.
Still, every now and then I try to find an hour to sit down, clear my head, pick up my pastel pencils and simply draw.
And for the past few weeks, there has been a rather beautiful face slowly appearing on my drawing table: a fox.
A fox full of character
This time, no flower or butterfly, but a beautiful fox. When I saw the photo this drawing is based on, I was immediately drawn to it. Especially those eyes! There is so much character in them that I knew straight away: I want to draw this one.
And, as usual, I started with the eyes. 😁 For me, that is always the moment when an animal slowly begins to come to life on paper.
Then came the ears, the face and lots and lots of tiny hairs. A lot of them. 😂 But it’s exactly those different colours and little details that make an animal like this so much fun to draw.
And apparently, orange isn’t simply orange either. There are shades of yellow, brown, red, beige and even much darker tones hidden in that beautiful fox fur.
Still a work in progress
As you can see in the photo, this fox is still very much a work in progress. The face is beginning to take shape, but there is plenty left to do. The fur needs more detail, the body is still waiting for some attention and the background is far from finished.
But I already like him so much that I couldn’t resist sharing a little preview. 🦊❤️
This fox won’t become part of my Fryske Serie. I think he will eventually find his place among the animals of Art Wishes.
When will he be finished? I have absolutely no idea. 😁 I draw when I have both the time and the inspiration, and at the moment that sometimes means making progress in very small steps.
And actually, I’m perfectly fine with that.
To be continued! ✏️🦊
