New at Art Wishes: Muisje – Verwondering
Sometimes a new Art Wish begins with one very simple thought: I feel like drawing something sweet.
After flowers, a butterfly and my Four-Leaf Clover, I wanted to draw an animal again. Not something big or impressive, but a tiny creature instead.
And that is how this curious little mouse came to life.
Standing on his hind legs, with his tiny paws held in front of him and his bright eyes looking up, he seems to have stopped for just a moment to take in the world around him.
As I continued drawing, he developed more and more of his own little personality. And looking at that curious face, there was one word that seemed to fit him perfectly:
Verwondering is a beautiful Dutch word meaning wonder or a sense of wonder.
As children, we can be completely fascinated by the smallest things. A tiny beetle on a leaf, an unusual stone, a flower or a butterfly passing by… The world is filled with things waiting to be discovered.
As adults, we sometimes lose a little of that. Life becomes busy, our minds are full, and we can easily walk past the small things that are actually quite extraordinary.
This little mouse is meant to be a gentle reminder of that.
To stop every now and then. To really look around you. To stay curious. And, most importantly, to never lose your sense of wonder.
The drawing was created entirely by hand using pastel pencils and soft pastels. I chose soft greens and natural colours for the background, with flowers and dreamy spots of light to create the gentle atmosphere that has become part of Art Wishes.
Muisje – Verwondering is, of course, an original one-of-a-kind artwork. There is only one.
The drawing has now been placed in its light wooden frame with a white mount and is completely ready to find a special new home. 💚
Please note that this particular artwork is the Dutch edition. The original drawing features the handwritten Dutch words “Muisje – Verwondering”, meaning “Mouse – Wonder”. The lettering is part of the original artwork.
