New from the studio: Poppy – Comfort (dutch)
Sometimes you desperately want to do something for someone, but you simply don’t know what to say.
When someone is grieving. Has lost someone they love. Is going through a difficult time. Or when life simply feels a little heavier than usual. You want them to know: I’m thinking of you. I’m here for you. But sometimes words just aren’t enough.
It was for those moments that I created Klaproos – Troost.
The poppy has long been associated with comfort and remembrance. It is a delicate flower, with its fragile petals, yet at the same time it is remarkably striking and strong. That combination made it the perfect flower for this drawing.
I chose to draw a single red poppy against a black background. Nothing to distract from it. Just the flower, its delicate details and the words Klaproos – Troost.
The artwork deliberately carries its Dutch title, as this original drawing is part of the Dutch flower collection of Art Wishes. Klaproos means Poppy and Troost means Comfort.
Like every Art Wishes drawing, this poppy was completely drawn by hand using soft pastel on Pastelmat. Hours of drawing, building up the flower layer by layer, until it expressed the feeling I wanted it to have.
Because to me, Art Wishes isn’t simply about creating something beautiful to hang on a wall.
It’s about giving something meaningful when words aren’t enough.
A small gesture that tells someone they are in your thoughts. Something tangible that doesn’t disappear after a few days, but can remain as a reminder of that gesture for many years to come.
Klaproos – Troost has now been framed and added to the Dutch flower collection of Art Wishes. As an original, there is only one available.
Perhaps it will find its home with someone who could use a little comfort right now. ❤️
